For the Cake
- • Granny Smith Apple (or any tart apple)— 1 or renders 1 and half cup when peeled and chopped.
- • Fuji Apple (or any sweet variety) — 1 or renders 1 and half cup when peeled and chopped
- • All-purpose flour — 2 cups
- • Sugar — 1 cup
- • Butter (unsalted) — 1/2 cup (120 grams), at room temperature
- • Eggs— 2, large
- • Apple sauce (unsweetened)— 1/4 cup (this is an optional ingredient and can be skipped or replaced with sour cream or milk)
- • Baking powder — 1/2 teaspoon
- • Baking soda — 1/2 teaspoon
- • Salt — 1/2 teaspoon
- • Vanilla extract — 1 table spoon
For the Crumble
- • Cold butter (unsalted) — 1/2 cup (120 grams), cold and diced into cubes
- • All-purpose flour — 1/2 cup
- • Brown sugar — 1/2 cup
- • Ground Cinnamon — 1 teaspoon
- • Salt — 1/4 teaspoon
